Much of the action took place in Sanxenxo, with some of the teams setting up headquarters here for many weeks, training, practicing and working. Then the circus came to town, with big top, elephants, ringmaster and all.

Volvo Ocean Race’s race village played host to hundreds of thousands of people, from school children to the King of Spain and his complete entourage, who all came to be a part of one of the biggest occasions ever to hit Galicia.
On the water the crowds watch the teams practicing, sometimes in winds up to 40 knots - but if the build up was good, then the In Port race was a wow. Thousands of viewers on the shore, hundreds of spectators on boats out on the water, and a resounding win for Ericsson.
The start was from Vigo and probably never has there been a yacht race with so many people watching the start. Ericsson lead round the inshore course and then they were unleashed into the Atlantic Ocean for the first leg to Cape Town.
