LEG 7 COURSE - 2,550 Nm

The classic transatlantic crossing, is dominated by the help available from low pressure systems and the Gulf Stream flow. Both are headed for Europe, just like the boats, but both need to be handled very carefully to extract the best from them. History tells us that the first boat onto the Gulf Stream travellator will build a lead that is hard to break down. If the Azores High ridges north, as it can do in late May, it could slow the approach to Galway. But at least they won’t have to deal with the tides and headlands of the Western Approaches or English Channel.
